The title EYES WIDE OPEN reflects a state of hyper-awareness of being forced to confront everything around you without the option to look away. It’s about being overwhelmed by the world but refusing to shut down.
It’s about seeing things as they are, whether it’s about politics, emotions or personal struggle and choosing to stay present. Not numbing out. Not retreating. Just standing there with your eyes wide open.
There’s no single concept, but the record deals with grief, survival, and emotional residue.
There are themes, class anxiety, burnout, and the quiet violences of daily life. It’s political, but personal.
It’s also a document of friendship, struggle, and shared intention. Lyrically, the album is unflinchingly personal and emotionally direct. It deals with dissociation, anxiety, identity, memory, and the contradictions of modern life. trying to feel something in a world that numbs us, trying to stay connected through alienation.
The record switches between English and Italian, using language as both an emotional tool and a reflection of the band’s roots.
ONLY are a screamo band based in Berlin, Germany. Their music reflects the diverse cultural and musical backgrounds of the members, who hail from Venezuela, Scotland, and Italy.
Only’s sound is rooted in early 2000s screamo but draws from a wide spectrum of hardcore, straddling the lines between catharsis, aggression, melody, and dissonance.
They’ve become an active part of Berlin’s thriving screamo scene and a growing community of bands across Europe.
The album was recorded at Castalian Spring in the heart of Berlin, the same space where the band writes and rehearses every week
Engineering was handled by Oleg Domanchuk, mix and mastering by Riccardo Pasini, working with the band for the third time.
Artwork was designed and laid out by vocalist Giulio Daverio, who also wrote the lyrics.
The release of the 12" vinyl is the result of a collaboration between labels from different parts of the world:
